Description
Asemaa Nitam, meaning “sacred tobacco first” in Anishinaabe, is a multi-part presentation series dedicated to exploring the cultural, spiritual, and agricultural significance of tobacco within Indigenous traditions. This series centers on traditional knowledge, personal experience, and scientific observation, offering participants a holistic understanding of this sacred plant.
In part 2, follow Farelle into the garden at Bernier farm to have a close up view of 13 nicotiana varieties labelled as “tobacco” and explore the differences between them, including growing risks and toxicity. Learn more about tobacco’s role in traditional Indigenous agriculture, cultivation techniques, harvesting and storage, followed by a discussion on literary resources to put on your bookshelf.
