Description

As part of the AAFC Indigenous Awareness Speaker Series, ISAO is honoured to host guests Albert Beck and Andrew Carrier as they share Red River Métis experiences with Residential and Day Schools.

Albert Beck, the Director of the Manitoba Métis Federation's (MMF) Sixties Scoop and Residential Schools Department, will provide a historical overview of the impact of colonial policies and the intergenerational trauma experienced by the Red River Métis community.

Andrew Carrier, Minister of Residential and Day School with the Manitoba Métis Federation, will share personal stories of survival, resilience, and cultural loss, as well as efforts towards cultural revitalization.

Participants will explore the role of language and traditions in reconnecting with Michif culture and discuss healing pathways addressing intergenerational trauma. The session will conclude with reflections, discussions, and an opportunity for questions.
