Description
The Working Mind, developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, is the recommended mental health training for all AAFC managers. It is an awareness-based program designed to address and promote mental health, reduce the stigma of mental illness in the workplace, and help managers develop strategies they can apply to support their own mental health and that of their employees.
The course focuses on practical knowledge of mental health and mental illness, including:
- Recognizing changes in an individual’s mental health and understanding when and how to take appropriate action
- Skills to maintain mental health
- Improving coping and resilience
- Reducing both public and self-stigma
- Being part of a supportive workplace
- Understanding what to do when employees return to work after illness, and
- Communicating with employees about mental health illness in a workplace context
